Art Commissions Vs. Art Requests

When you find an artist that you would love to have art from or to add to your art collection, it's good to know the difference between commissioning them or requesting art from them. So, in the following, I've explained the difference between them:

Art Commissions are when you pay an artist to create a custom art or design that you are wanting. So you will pay the artist in return for their service to create the art you want. In AJ, the payment would be an in game item. Each AJ artist have their own charges so it is best to ask them what will they charge and what you are willing to offer in exchange.

Art Requests are when you are asking an artist to create an art but it isn't paid for. Maybe you have a cool idea that you feel the artist would be a great fit to make that art idea come to life. So you can request if the artist is willing to make that idea into a painting. Or you're wanting to see if they are willing to draw you something for free.

I am not able to do free art so I don't accept art requests. If you have a suggestion of an art idea that you'd like to see if I'm willing to create, I'm open to art suggestions.

When I first started playing AJ, I was really surprised by the feature of being able to create your own painting in Animal Jam. And on top of that, make it into a den item. I was so excited and somehow, I've been hooked playing the game.

I began painting AJ art in August of 2016 and I really enjoyed (and still do) painting portraits of jammers. Because, in real life, a lot of us have portraits of ourselves and our families throughout the house, right? So, it seemed natural to want to paint portrait-like paintings of jammers. It has more of a personal feeling that you get when you walk into your den and decorate it with a portrait of your main look.

I love photography too, so in a way, painting jammer's looks and thinking of ways how to portray the jammer with their pet and personality became something I continued doing on and off since I started playing AJ.

However, it can be overwhelming at times. Because, I have to juggle things in real life and don't always have the time to get on AJ to paint and the interest of jammers wanting to commission me for a portrait fan art of their animal, grew and grew to the point where I just can't keep up with the demand. After the first month of doing custom art, I had a customer list that reached 100. I couldn't keep up with that amount. I wanted to be able to take on everyone who asked me because I know that they would absolutely love to have fan art of their animal. I know what that feels like. But, I just didn't have the time to keep up with the amount I was receiving.

So finally, I had to stop accepting commissions. I don't know if I will accept them again. And instead, I want to give jammers a chance to win a custom art by me from a giveaway I will be hosting soon. This way, those who may not be able to afford a very detailed full body custom art, can enter my monthly giveaway for a chance to win one for free. To learn more about how to enter, please visit my Giveaway page.

Another reason why I have stopped doing commissions is that I'd love to have the chance to create art from my own ideas. I've put it off for a long while and I wasn't able to do both custom art and my own ideas. It was hard to make this decision because I really do enjoy painting jammer looks. And it can be fun to paint. So this is also why I wanted to do a giveaway, because I don't want to stop entirely from doing portraits of jammers. I can at least paint one full body custom art and one close-up (headshot), once a month, while I mostly do my own art and juggle that with doing Youtube videos.

Well, that is it for this post. I hope you can follow my blog as I'll be adding more content!
